Talented Singer-Songwriter Pranita releases her album “Rang,” on Benison Records

Mumbai, September 3, 2020: Classical Singer, Pranita NP combines classical music with poetry and fuses cultures and languages to create an enchanting folk fusion album, offering a journey into our rich musical heritage.  The new record is available through Benison Records.

Pranita NP is a Mumbai-based singer-songwriter, actor, writer, and arts workshop facilitator.

She has been learning Hindustani classical vocal music for the past 16 years and semi-classical music for the past 5 years. An equally interesting storyteller, Pranita conceptualizes and performed her music and storytelling concerts, having taken them to Prithvi Theatre’s Annual Youth Festival. She has also been a part of 4 musical theatre productions as a singer and actor and has extensively performed at the most prestigious venues across India such as Kamani Auditorium (Delhi), Prithvi Theatre and NCPA (Mumbai), National School of Drama (Tripura) and Bharat Bhavan (Bhopal).

“Rang” is a concept album representing the blending of two cultures that created a body of ‘Hindustani’ folk and classical music – Indian ragas and Persian rhythms, and the philosophies of Hinduism and Islam.  This multilingual folk album is based on 5 folk songs and a ghazal in 6 different North Indian languages.  It is Pranita’s debut album and speaking on the launch, Pranita commented, “This album brings alive my experiences over the years as I trained in Hindustani Classical and Semi-Classical Music, at the same time experimenting with poetry.   It’s an album that reflects my musical journey.  I am grateful to the team at Benison Records and my mentor, Ashish Manchanda for supporting me through my debut launch as a singer-songwriter.”

Pranita writes in Hindi and Urdu and composes her poetry, as well as works with the poetry of ancient and medieval writers.  She derives her inspiration from the raw, intimate vocals of singer-songwriters such as Norah Jones and Amy Winehouse. She is also inspired by the very expressive ‘thumri’ style of singing and medieval India’s courtesan culture. Her music has a very emotional quality to it and seamlessly blends a nostalgic Indian sound with a modern twist uniquely.
