India is considered the Diabetes capital of the world because it has 17% of diabetics in the world. The total number of blood sugar patients is approximately 80 million and is expected to reach 135 million in 2045. So, let’s understand how to control 10 unhealthy habits to bring things on the fitness track. 

1. Stress

It can be a major reason behind the increase in blood sugar levels. Any kind of stress is harmful to overall health especially when you are a diabetic. Talk to your doctor about the changing patterns of sugar levels under different levels of stress. 

2. Artificial Sweeteners

Generally, we consider sugar-free products safe for controlling sugar, but sometimes it can be a reason for an increase as well. Hence, it is recommended to use no sweets or fewer sweets for better health. 

3. Less than normal sleep

If we don’t sleep for 6-8 hours a day, then we can develop various issues, which may result in an increase in sugar in the blood. Because less sleep can be a major reason for stress and it may hinder your healthy habits.

4. Skipping breakfast

It seems normal to many, but it is harmful to sugar patients, as it increases sugar levels after lunch and dinner. Due to unhealthy lifestyles, people sleep late at night as well as wake up late in the morning, and tend to skip breakfast. But, be cautious and have something to eat within an hour after waking up. 

5. Less water

If you drink less water, then sugar concentration increases in your blood. Otherwise, sugar dissolves in water, decreasing its level. Although, drinking a lot of water is essential to hydrate all the body parts. 

6. Lacking exercise

Regular exercise is a must for everyone to maintain good health. If not, then walking, jogging, cycling, and running can be helpful in staying fit. According to the American Diabetes Association, you need to exercise for 150 minutes every week to stay away from type 2 diabetes. 

7. Fiberless food

Foods rich in fat and carbohydrates are not good for a healthy body and mind. However, fiber-rich foods like wholegrain, vegetables, fruits, millet, corn, nuts, and seeds are good to avoid type 2 diabetes. 

8. Consumption of alcohol and smoking

Smoking cigarettes and drinking alcohol is injurious to health and especially for people with type 2 diabetes, it is more than dangerous. It is one of the topmost reasons for diabetes in youngsters. 

9. Wrong medication

Improper doses of medicines along with other drugs can react and result in a boost in sugar levels. Hence, it is advisable to consult your doctor before starting any new medication for taking good care of your complications. 

10. Unnoticed hormonal fluctuation

Changes in hormones may also increase the sugar level. The lower the estrogen, the higher the blood sugar. During the menstrual cycle, the level of sugar goes up. Also, when going through menopause, the sugar level imbalance can be witnessed. Hence, through proper exercise, sleep, meditation, and diet control, you can check your sugar and stay healthy.
