Chandigarh woman disappears after looting villagers for crores

A case has emerged in Chandigarh in which a woman disappears after looting villagers in massive fraud schemes. She promised false investment opportunities and committee instalments, allegedly pocketing over ₹8 crore looted from more than 500 distressed villagers. Police have launched an active search for her as she has run away from her home with close to 500 villagers distressed.

The scam spread over a period of 3 to 4 years. Raising the confidence of residents of Kajheri, Rajwanti ran a social committee for over 25 years. Many thought her to be trustworthy, owing to her two houses in Kajheri and a factory in Dera Bassi. Still, the woman disappears after looting villagers, who invested their hard-earned money, hoping to gain profits from her factory.

One of the victims, Vikas Kumar, lodged a formal complaint at Sector 36 police station, stating that he invested alone ₹50 lakh. Others contributed sums ranging from ₹50,000 to ₹1 crore. To convince the villagers to invest, Rajwanti offered shares in her factory, but looting villagers and disappearing after collecting crores enraged them.

The police have now filed a case of fraud and criminal conspiracy against Rajwanti and her family. As the probe continues, the authorities are examining the amounts claimed over ₹8 crore.
