A shocking violence case in Ujjain of Madhya Pradesh was reported which has sent shockwaves all across the nation. A man named raped a woman on a footpath, that too, in broad daylight. The incident was reported to have happened at Koyla Phatak, an intersection in the city, on Wednesday. The heinous nature of the crime was accentuated by reasons that the incident was filmed and had gone viral on social media, thereby causing much public outrage.
According to the police, Lokesh had lured the scrap collector victim on the pretext of marrying her. He first got her drunk and then took advantage of her in that weakened state. The incident occurred in the Agar Naka area of Ujjain, where shockingly, no passerby came forward for her rescue. On the contrary, somebody camouflaged this brutal attack on camera, bringing out in bright light the disturbing aspect of apathy among bystanders in urban areas.
Man named Lokesh raped a woman, FIR registered against him
The video of the assault went viral, and the incident came to light after the footage spread online. After the release of the video, Lokesh was immediately arrested for raping the woman. Lokesh was taken into custody within two hours of filing the FIR. During interrogation, he confessed to the crime-cum-assault case, thereby confirming the severity of the attack.
The woman, after the effect of the alcohol, was unable to help herself which further assisted the victim. A medical examination was conducted on the woman. Also, her statement has been recorded in court. The video evidence has been presented to the authorities which furthered the case against Lokesh.
Lokesh appeared before the court and was remanded to Bherugarh jail following his arrest. The case has created enough debate in public about bystander behaviour and apathy in that the incident took place in one of the busiest areas and no help was extended.
Investigations have proceeded briskly, especially with the video, particularly concerning the actions of Lokesh and also the non-action by those present when the assault took place.
The incident where man raped a woman has brought into sharp focus severe issues related to bystander intervention and the need for greater vigilance on the part of society in preventing and responding to such heinous crimes.
