The University Grants Commission (UGC) has found 32 Indian Fake University operating in 12 states across the country. It raises new concerns about student safety and the credibility of higher education. Recent data reveal an increase in these institutions from 20 to 32 over the past two years, showing the growing influence of unauthorized universities.
UGC flags 32 Indian Fake University
The UGC has warned students and parents to be careful and avoid enrolling in these institutions. They are not recognized under the UGC Act and not hold authority to grant valid degrees.
New states added to the list include Haryana, Rajasthan, Jharkhand, and Arunachal Pradesh, each reporting one fake university. The commission also issued a specific alert about an institute in Bengaluru called Global Human Peace University. It state not authorized to operate as a university.
Delhi lead in fake list
Delhi has the highest number of Indian Fake University, with 12 operating in the national capital. These include the All India Institute of Public and Physical Health Sciences, Commercial University Limited, United Nations University, Vishwakarma Open University for Self-Employment, and the Institute of Management and Engineering.
Some of these institutions are located near regulatory offices, raising concerns about monitoring and enforcement.
Other states where fake universities found include Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Maharashtra, West Bengal, Puducherry, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka.
