Onion bomb takes a human’s life on an important event like Diwali and left six injured after a terrible accident involving a two wheeler carrying Diwali firecrackers. Incidentally, the accident is said to have occurred because a scooter loaded with onion bombs hit a pothole, and the fall of the highly explosive cracker near a local temple caused it to detonate in the air.
The horrific seconds before the blast were caught on the CCTV cameras. In a video, two young men are seen racing through the narrow street on a white scooter at 12.17 pm. Approaching the junction of the main road, firecrackers, also known as onion bombs, fall from his hand and explode on touching the ground. The power of the explosion is likened to an IED, or improvised explosive device. Before this could be so, the room was filled in an instant with acrid grey smoke, rags of torn paper fluttering in it.

The bombing was fatal, casting heavy smoke and debris across the street. When the smoke cleared, survivors scampered from the scene, dazed and shielding their ears due to the intense impact. Sudhakar, who is said to be the rider, suffered critical injuries and apparently died instantaneously because of the intense explosion. His body was torn into various pieces by the bombing, with fear and horror spread across the area.
It took the life on Diwali but left six others injured when an onion bomb hit at the district hospital with two of them remaining critical. Witnesses reported that they heard the blast from a distance, and how such an intense accident could happen on a busy street is what the authorities are trying to figure out.
Sealing off the area and lodging a case, police are investigating the mishap that turned a festive celebration into a nightmare. The tragedy has highlighted issues of high-power firecracker use and transportation and calls for stricter safety measures ahead of Diwali to prevent recurrence of such accidents in future.
