Authorities investigating a Kanpur-bound train derailment have unearthed a possible and alleged ISI train sabotage plot, thereby intensifying their investigation. The Indian investigating agencies suspect that IS Khorasan orchestrated the Kanpur train derailment and draw parallels with other incidents. Similar attacks had taken place in Madhya Pradesh in 2017 when one suspect from the same network, Saifullah, was neutralized during an encounter.
In what has been an intriguing investigation, many arrests were unearthed in Lucknow and Kanpur in connection with this ISI train sabotage plot. How bigger it was could be understood by the fact that the National Investigation Agency has joined forces with the local authorities over this case. A pattern of militancy in which even attacks on trains have been called for was shown by the arrest of suspects that was recently made, linked to the cafe blast in Rameshwaram, apart from being suspicious.
ISI train sabotage plot is linked with ISIS module in Khorasan
The ISI train sabotage plot reportedly has its links with the ISIS module in Khorasan. It is very active in Afghanistan and is trying to extend its reach in regions. Investigations are looking at the involvement of ISI-backed elements in possible collaboration with these groups. The link thickens the plot for suspicion of a big and coordinated effort at transportation disruption.
The security forces are further investigating the theft of a DVR from a sensitive camera system. It also interrogates more than 100 suspects. Of the detained people, 12 have been under great suspicion. Investigators also maintain that in a bid to ignite the train, gas cylinders were strategically placed. It further is corroborating their view on the theory of a plot to sabotage the running of a train.
Details about this conspiracy are coming out. However, the way to prevent further escalation in violence and guard the infrastructure from such attacks remains a priority.
