UP government held back salaries of 2.44 lakh employees

Uttar Pradesh’s state government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath from the Bharatiya Janata Party, has implemented asset declaration rules for its employees. On a strict note, CM Yogi has ordered all government employees in the state to declare their assets and properties by September 30. It includes both movable and immovable as Yogi also announces a membership drive active right away.

Notably, the UP government held back salaries of 2.44 lakh employees missing the deadline set on August 31. However, the new closing date for compliance is now set to September 30.

Out of 8.47 lakh employees, 6.02 lakh have already submitted details of their assets on the ‘Manav Sampada’ portal of the state government. It shall be noted that the government later decided not to withhold the salaries giving a last chance to downfallen employees to declare their assets.

UP government held back salaries of 2.44 lakh employees but starts membership drive to connect individuals with the spirit of the Nation

On the situation, Mr. Adityanath said in a post on ‘X’,

“The membership drive of the Bharatiya Janata Party starting today is a movement to connect the individual with the spirit of Nation First, the resolve to serve the people, the vow of Antyodaya and the vision of ‘Developed India-Atmanirbhar Bharat’,”

Yet, the move has prompted protests from the opposition Samajwadi Party. SP spokesperson Ashutosh Verma states this is a mere eyewash in response to all-pervading corruption and questions why this was not done when Yogi Adityanath came to power in 2017.

The UP government appears of a mind to execute the above order in letter and spirit. It cautions that salaries were being continued to be withheld from the erring employees who failed to abide by the new deadline. Such a situation is an indicator of the upheld focus of the government regarding the curbing of lawlessness and securing responsibility in its ranks.

Earlier on Friday, Adityanath took a dig at previous governments. He said they were only there to enjoy the high ranks. Talking about the state, the chief asserted that UP lacked the ability to set up business before 2017. He also distributed cash incentives worth 1,333 INR Crore to 32 industrial units in the state.
