Iran Plans to Retaliatory Attack on Israel warns United Nation

Iran retaliatory attack on Israel

Iran has informed the United Nations that it plans to launch a retaliatory attack on Israel in response to recent events and is framed as an act of self-defense. Iran has quoted Article 51 of the UN Charter to justify its actions.

The announcement followed the death of Ismail Haniyeh, a political leader of Hamas. Haniyeh was killed in an Israeli strike in Tehran which has significantly increased tensions in the region. Israel has neither confirmed nor denied involvement in Haniyeh’s assassination. The Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told that Israel is prepared for any scenario. He mentioned that Israel has already delivered crushing blows to its enemies.

Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has announced to take revenge for Haniyeh’s death due to an Israel airstrike. He referred to Haniyeh as a dear guest and warned Israel of harsh punishment and consequences for targeting Haniyeh. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said that the US was not aware of or involved in the killing of Haniyeh. This action of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei tells that Iran will not take a step back and will stand against the oppression and take revenge.

Memorial Procession for Haniyeh

Before Haniyeh’s memorial procession Iran issued temporary flight restrictions in Tehran. The restrictions covered a 2-kilometer radius centered at the University of Tehran. These restrictions were in place from 6 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. local time on Thursday. Haniyeh’s procession started at the University of Tehran and moved towards Azadi Square. Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei leaded the prayers.

What is Article 51?

Article 51 of the UN Charter acknowledges the inherent right of self-defense. It tells that member states have the right to defend themselves if an armed attack occurs against them. This article allows countries to take necessary measures to ensure their security and territorial integrity. In this context Iran is using Article 51 to justify its planned retaliatory attack on Israel due to the Israel air strike which killed Hamas political leader Ismael Haniyeh.
