Need a soundtrack to match your AI-generated video for your AI-generated friends? Google has you covered. The company announced today that Lyria 3, its music generation model, will be available to use in its Gemini app.
Google Launches Music Generation Model
This feature is still in beta, but it will roll out over the coming days to all users with the Gemini app, as long as they are 18 years or older. Initially, users can generate songs in English, German, Spanish, French, Hindi, Japanese, Korean, and Portuguese, with more languages planned for the future. For now, free subscribers will have their music creations limited to 30 seconds, similar to an iTunes preview length.
Google AI Plus, Pro, and Ultra subscribers will have higher limits, although the company did not specify what those limits will be. However, it’s safe to say that you won’t be able to create your version of “Free Bird.”
New model named Lyria 3
Lyria 3 is the latest generative AI model from Deep Mind and the first version of Lyria to have a wider public release. Previous models were available to musicians through Google’s Music AI Sandbox, a set of tools launched to explore how AI could assist in music creation. Lyria was also available to some YouTube creators with a feature that turned speech into song.
This new version improves on several areas where past models struggled, according to Google. First, it can now generate its own lyrics, relieving users of the challenge of rhyming with “orange.” It also allows for more control over song elements, like style, tempo, and vocals. Finally, Google claims Lyria 3 can create more realistic and musically complex tracks.tracks.”
