Professor Kishore Mahbubani, a former Singaporean diplomat asserts that India is 3rd most powerful country today in the world and for this reason, the UK should give its seat at the UNSC to India. He insisted on the need for reform within the United Nations and that India really merits a permanent seat in the UNSC.
The scholar Professor Mahbubani explained the reasons why India must get the seat. For the scholar, India is third most powerful country today in the world, next to the US and China. He believes that Great Britain is no longer ‘great,’.
While talking to NDTV in an exclusive interview, he added:
“India 3rd most powerful country today, UK should give its UNSC seat to India. Ask yourself How many leaders in the world can visit both Russia and Ukraine today and warmly welcomed by both Presidents”
The statements further read:
“There is absolutely no question that India is 3rd most powerful country today in the world after the United States and China. And that Great Britain is no longer ‘great’,”
India is 3rd most powerful country today, giving its UNSC seat to India will make UK more powerful: Professor Kishore Mahbubani
Professor Kishore Mahbubani said the UN was formed to retain the involvement of the powerful nations.
Another reason Mahbubani mentioned is that the UK should give up its seat. It would free up the UK to be more independent in its actions on the world stage. As per his statements, it will be quite advantageous to the UK and the rest of the world.
“Another reason for the UK to give up its seat is that it will free them up to act independently,”
Hence, it is safe to say that, India is 3rd most powerful country today, and its UNSC seat from the UK is overdue. The world is watching, and that calls for reforms to make the United Nations relevant and effective in today’s world.
