Donald Trump, aspiring to become President of the United States for a second time in the coming elections, finds a special place among Indians for his pro-Israel stand. His policies and statements that he is hell-bent on the destruction of ISIS find resonance with Indian supporters—notably if they belong to the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party, or BJP.
He’s running against democratic US Congresswoman Ilhan Omar, and that’s made this a central issue: Former President Trump’s party overtly calling for her to be deported to Somalia.
All such things happened recently when she spoke against India during her visit to Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The visit was reportedly a sponsored one by the Pakistani government. She became an enfant terrible of Indian politics some time ago.
Trump wants Omar to be deported to Somalia but Omar’s relationships seems to be growing with Indian Congress
Her meeting with Rahul Gandhi, on his tour to the U.S., has only made matters worse. The BJP is charging that Mr. Gandhi has teamed up with people with anti-India opinions.
Several Congress leaders meet ex-U.S. President Barack Obama and Vice President Kamala Harris in the U.K. with respect to different kinds of reforms. This simply indicates the very fact that the party is keen on getting to meet important global leaders ahead of elections in India.
But suddenly the ruling Congress party, under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi, has been making friends with folks like Omar. His “dangerous” acts will rob India of its credibility with foreign nations, charges the BJP government.
Meanwhile, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., previously introduced a resolution to censure Omar for purported “treasonous statements,” claiming she acted on behalf of foreign interests. Many, however, have pointed out that the statements attributed to Omar were mistranslations, so it’s not quite black-and-white.
Just as battle lines are drawn, it is bounded that Omar’s role in U.S. politics and her links with people like Rahul Gandhi will continue to be an overriding factor in U.S.-Indian politics.
