A highly critical tweet about Mahindra car designs, service, and reliability sent shock waves, prompting a remark from the chairman of Mahindra Group, Anand Mahindra. The user compared Mahindra to Hyundai unfavorably, stating their design is not impressive and unsure of their reliability quotient. He termed some designs “gobar (dung) kinda” and concluded with, “So far, only disappointed.”
The criticism came at the time when Mahindra had just launched its electric models, BE6e and XEV 9e. Not taking the post lying low, Mahindra responded to it publicly. He looked back at the journey of the company and said in 1991, the global consultants advised Mahindra to leave the automobile business as they were not strong enough to compete with international automobile brands. “Three decades later, we are still here and competing fiercely,” he said.
Mahinda car designs extremely criticized by a user, Anand Mahindra thanked him for feedback
Mahindra argued that criticism was fueling their hunger to improve. He admitted there was still a “long way to go,” but reminded the critic of how far Mahindra had come from its start: “Cynicism, skepticism, and even rudeness fuel our hunger to succeed.” Mahindra thanked the user for the feedback.
It had to be deleted after a reported call from Mahindra’s team that made the user apologize. Later the critic tweeted, “OMG, this is so sweet. I’m glad you took the criticism constructively. I had to delete the tweet because I thought your team was unhappy with my harsh words.” He said his remarks were “wrong”.
The XEV 9e electric SUV by Mahindra will start coming to home turf at a price of ₹21.90 lakh starting in February 2025. Another such car by Mahindra, in this case BE6e, will reflect the brand’s push toward innovation and sustainability.
