A daylight armed robbery at a State Bank of India (SBI) branch in the Varachha area of Surat reported after CCTV footage showed a group of armed men entering the building one by one and escaping with cash. Police confirmed that around Rs 50 lakh stolen in the incident.
Robbers robbed SBI Bank Surat on gun point
According to the police, five to six armed attackers arrived on motorcycles and targeted the branch on Long Hanuman Road while a cash delivery was taking place through a CMS van.
The CCTV footage reportedly shows the suspects entering the bank, threatening the staff, and fleeing with cash in a bag. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone-1) Alok Kumar told IANS that the suspects allegedly used weapons during the robbery and disabled the security systems inside the bank. He said, “Approximately Rs 50 lakh looted at this branch. Five to six suspects came on motorcycles.

We are investigating and tracking them down. They displayed weapons and took the phone from the official, which delayed police contact. They also cut off and disabled the alarm system. The police arrived quickly after receiving the information.” CCTV footage reviewed to confirm whether pistols used, as suggested in initial reports.
Teams from Zone-1 police and the Crime Branch deployed, and nearby districts have been alerted as part of the investigation. Officers are working to trace the route the suspects took after the robbery.
Eyewitness accounts from the personnel involved in the CMS cash delivery suggest the robbery happened moments after the cash brought into the branch.
