If you haven’t linked your PAN with Aadhaar yet, today is the last day to do so. The deadline for linking is today, December 31, 2025, giving taxpayers just a few hours to finish the process.
The Income Tax Department has warned that PAN cards not linked with Aadhaar by the end of the day will become inactive. This could create problems for key financial and tax-related tasks.
What happens if you miss deadline to link PAN and Aadhaar?
Once the deadline passes, an unlinked PAN will be inactive. This means taxpayers may run into issues while
- Filing income tax returns
- Receiving tax refunds
- Opening bank or demat accounts
- Performing high-value financial transactions
Additionally, anyone who tries to link after today will need to pay a late fee of Rs 1,000 before starting the linking process.
Linking Deadline and late fee
The final date to link PAN with Aadhaar is today, December 31, 2025. However, if you miss the deadline, you can still link them by paying Rs 1,000. According to the IT department, you must pay the late fee first, then you can link it.
Taxpayers can complete the linking online through the Income Tax Department’s e-filing portal. Here are simple steps to link.

- Visit the Income Tax e-Filing portal.
- Select “Link Aadhaar.”
- Enter your PAN and Aadhaar numbers.
- Confirm details and verify using the OTP sent to your Aadhaar-linked mobile.
Taxpayers who do not have easy access to the internet can also choose the offline method.
