CBI alleged the Anil Ambani for involving in 2000 Crore Fraud case. The case has filed against the Reliance Communications and its promoter director Anil Ambani for a alleged bank fraud. This fraud caused a loss of over ₹2,000 crore to the State Bank of India, officials said on Saturday.
The agency is conducting searches at Anil Ambani’s residence and locations linked to RCOM in connection with the case, according to their statements.

The CBI acted based on a complaint from the State Bank of India, which approached them after classifying the entities as fraud on June 13. This was in accordance with the RBI’s Master Directions on Fraud Risk Management and the bank’s board-approved policy on classification, reporting, and management of frauds.
On June 24, 2025, the bank reported the fraud classification to the RBI and is also in the process of filing a complaint with the CBI, Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary noted in a written reply to the Lok Sabha last month.
RCom is in bankruptcy and heavy debt
The State Bank of India has a credit exposure of ₹2,227.64 crore to RCom, which includes the principal amount along with accrued interest and expenses since August 26, 2016. It also has a non-fund-based Bank Guarantee of ₹786.52 crore, he added.
Anil Ambani’s company is undergoing the Corporate Insolvency Resolution Process under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016. The resolution plan approved by the Committee of Creditors and submitted to the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT), Mumbai, on March 6, 2020. The NCLT approval is still pending.
The bank also started a Personal Insolvency Resolution Process under the IBC against Anil Ambani, which is heard by the NCLT in Mumbai, he mentioned. The SBI classified the account and promoter Anil D. Ambani as ‘fraud’ on November 10, 2020, and filed a complaint with the CBI on January 5, 2021. However, the Minister said that the complaint returned due to the ‘status quo’ order dated January 6, 2021, issued by the Delhi High Court.
