Being the world’s largest arms importer, India relies on Russia for defense supplies. Last month, Trump urged Modi to buy more U.S.-made security equipment and make a fair trading relationship with them.
India Making Fair Trading Relationship with the US
India and US have in talks over co-production of Stryker combat vehicles made by General Dynamics and used by U.S. Army. They also planning to make contract talks on co-production of fighter jet engines in India for IAF, said by sources. Defence Production Secretary Sanjeev Kumar told reporters, “ we wish to boost transaction that we have with the US, and such efforts were underway.” But he will not elaborate on this statement.
Officials of state-owned Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) India planned to meet with US officials in coming weeks and aerospace unit of General Electric, sources said. New delhi also starts talks with Trump administration on plan to purchase Stryker vehicles after they demonstrated late last year for IAF, other sources said.
What is this Trading relationship Plans?
The plan on India Making Fair Trading Relationship with US , shows that India will get few hundred Strykers with a mounted anti-tank guided missile system from US. India will plans to co-produce them by a state-run firm, as per sources.
It was not clear yet if two potential deals will look in talks between Trump and Modi. The foreign ministry of India said trade, technology and defence cooperation are issues that we need to discussed.
