The Department of Posts (DoP), announce to officials that India Post merge Registered Post service with Speed Post. The merge take place from September 1, 2025 to streamline operations.
The merger marks the end of India Post’s oldest services. Registered Post, associated with official and secure conversation, now merge into Speed Post. It offers faster delivery with advanced tracking capabilities.

“The initiative aim to streamline mail services, improve operational performance and enhance tracking mechanisms. It deliver more client comfort by consolidating comparable services under a unified framework,” said experts.
Dushyant Mudgal, DDG (Mail Operations), directed all directorates and divisions to check and update administrative instructions, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and train modules. It also look at workflow files to remove or update references to ‘Registered Post’ and ‘Registered Post with Acknowledgement Due’ with Speed Post terminology where required.
Merger marks modernization of postal services
A Registered Post referred to as a post, added only to the individual it is addressed to, ensuring security. In assessment, a Speed Post referred to time-specific. It prioritizes faster delivery, that means anyone on the given address can get hold of it. While Registered Post is slower and more stable, it is also more less expensive than Speed Post.
The India Post department has emphasised that the flow aimed toward modernizing postal services. It creates a more efficient and customer friendly system.
