US President Donald Trump announced a India-US Trade Dealon Monday after a phone call with Modi. Under this agreement, the US reduce tariffs on Indian goods from 25 % to 18 %. India stop buying Russian oil and purchase $500 billion worth of US energy and technology, Trump said.
Tariff cuts from 50% to 18%, India show gratitude toward Trump
PM Modi expressed his gratitude to Trump for the announcement on the social media platform X. He also celebrating the lower US tariffs. “Wonderful to speak with my dear friend President Trump today. I feel delighted that Made in India products now a reduced tariff of 18 %. Big thanks to Trump on behalf of the 1.4 billion people of India for this announcement,” PM Modi said.
Will trade deal improve countries economies?
The PM noted that the partnership between “two large economies and the world’s largest democracies” benefit citizens. It create vast opportunities for cooperation. “ Trump’s leadership matters for global peace, stability, and prosperity. India fully supports his efforts for peace. I look forward to working closely with him to take our partnership to new heights,” PM Modi said.
Regarding their conversation, Trump said that it’s “an honour” to speak with PM Modi, calling him one of his “greatest friends.” He noted that both leaders “ two people that get things done.”
