As debates heat up over gig worker pay, safety, and working conditions, Eternal CEO Deepinder Goyal has shared detailed data showing that delivery partners on Zomato earned an average of ₹102 per hour in 2025. In a post on X, he noted that these partners worked a average of 38 days that year and recorded delivery speeds that are not influenced by pressure to ride faster.
Zomato Shares Gig Worker Earnings Data
This data appears during a growing national discussion on whether gig work provides fair pay and protections. Worker unions, policymakers, and online users are raising concerns about the stability of earnings, long hours, and safety risks in app-based delivery jobs.
According to the figures Goyal shared, average earnings per hour (EPH), excluding tips, increased by 11% from ₹92 in 2024 to ₹102 in 2025. Over a longer period, Goyal claims EPH has shown consistent growth.
Goyal explained that EPH is based on total logged-in time, which includes times when delivery partners are waiting for orders. While earnings during peak or busy hours are higher, he stated that this metric does not accurately reflect overall earnings.
Delivery partner earns ₹26,500 monthly, if work 10 hours daily
Using the 2025 EPH, he estimates that a delivery partner working 10 hours a day for 26 days a month would make about ₹26,500 in gross monthly income. After factoring in fuel and vehicle maintenance costs, estimated at around 20 %, net earnings would be about ₹21,000 a month.
Goyal also pointed out that tips are another source of income. Delivery partners receive all customer tips without any deductions. The average tip per hour on Zomato was ₹2.6 in 2025, up from ₹2.4 in 2024. About 5 % of orders on Zomato and 2.5 % on Blinkit received tips, according to the data. Regarding working hours, Goyal mentioned that most delivery partners use the platform sporadically. In 2025, the average partner worked 38 days in the year, logging about seven hours each working day. Only 2.3 % of partners worked more than 250 days that year.
