Bihar has become the first state in India to officially implement a statewide rule that bars customers with fully covered faces from entering jewelry shops. This action comes in response to rising security concerns amid increasing gold and silver prices.
The decision follows directions from the All India Jewellers and Gold Federation (AIJGF) and is now effective throughout the state.
Bihar Jewelry stores refuse entry of Hijab People
Jewelry stores refuse entry to customers whose faces covered by items like hijabs, niqabs, burqas, scarves, helmets, or similar coverings. According to the federation, jewelry purchases allowed after proper facial identification.
Denied Hijab People Entry in Jewlery stores over security
Ashok Kumar Verma, State President of the All India Jewellers and Gold Federation, told that Bihar is the first state to implement a rule in all districts. He emphasized that this decision only based on security reasons and not aimed at any specific community or religious group.
“Today, the price of 10 grams of gold is around Rs 1.40 lakh, and 1 kgs of silver costs about Rs 2.5 lakh,” Verma said. “Several robbery incidents have happened where people enter shops in groups with their faces fully covered. They wear helmets or veils and commit thefts. This decision aimed at preventing such crimes,” he added.
He clarified that the federation is not banning hijabs or burqas but asking customers to show their faces and verify their identity to enter in jewelry shops.
