In a significant move to improve access to quality public education in India, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), led by PM Modi, has approved the establishment of 57 New Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) under the civil sector. The financial support amounts to ₹5,862.55 crore, that allocated over nine years starting from 2026. This expansion aims to meet the educational needs of children of Central Government employees, particularly in underserved and challenging regions.
Balvatikas Introduced for the First Time in New Kendriya Vidyalayas
These 57 new Kendriya Vidyalayas will include Balvatikas, which are pre-primary classes that form a three-year foundational stage. This aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. This marks the first time Balvatikas are officially included during the establishment of KVs, emphasizing the government’s focus on foundational learning.
₹5,862 Cr Allocation and Infrastructure Plans
The total estimated budget includes
- Capital Expenditure: ₹2,585.52 crore
- Operational Expenditure: ₹3,277.03 crore
Each New Kendriya Vidyalayas expected to serve around 1,520 students, resulting in a total of 86,640 students across the 57 schools. To support this effort, 4,617 permanent jobs created, with each school hiring 81 staff members. Furthermore, large-scale construction and infrastructure development will provide significant indirect employment opportunities for both skilled and unskilled workers.
