Hybrid Mode Back in Delhi Schools Till Class 5 Amid Air Pollution Crisis

The Education Department directed all schools in the Delhi National Capital Region (NCR) on Tuesday to immediately conduct classes for students up to Class 5 in a hybrid mode. This follows a directive from the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) regarding Stage 3.

Education department issue the order for Hybrid Mode in Delhi Schools

The order, issued by Director of Education Veditha Reddy, IAS, highlights the worsening air quality in the NCR and the activation of severe measures under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP). The subcommittee on GRAP decided to take all actions under Stage III, that labeled as “Severe” for Delhi. This decision must implemented promptly by all relevant agencies in the NCR, in addition to the existing Stage I and II actions.

According to the education department’s circular, all Government, Government Aided, and Recognized Private Schools under the Directorate of Education, New Delhi Municipal Council, Municipal Corporation of Delhi, and Delhi Cantonment Board must conduct classes in a hybrid format, combining online and offline teaching until further notice.

GRAP Stage 3 implemented

Delhi CM Rekha Gupta said that GRAP Stage 3 has implemented and that all safety measures are in place. Schools will use a hybrid system for classes up to Class 5, allowing for both online and in-person sessions.

Schools must inform parents and guardians about this change without delay. This decision arises as Delhi air quality index (AQI) remains in the ‘severe’ category, leading authorities to enforce stricter measures to protect public health, especially for young children. Officials are required to ensure strict compliance, and the order sent to all relevant education departments and boards for immediate action.
