JKAS Aspirants are on hunger strike at Raj Bhawan on Friday, December 5, 2025. The entire political spectrum, including the ruling National Conference (NC) and the Opposition BJP, called for age relaxation for job seekers in Jammu and Kashmir.
Protests are growing in J&K by applicants under the open merit category. They demand that the current upper age limit raised from 32 to 37. “The demand is genuine and justified, especially because J&K is the only Union Territory with such a low upper age limit of 32 years for open merit candidates.
JKAS Aspirants demand for Age relaxation
Many applicants have lost years of preparation due to circumstances beyond their control, and justice delivered before the exam,” said Jammu & Kashmir Students Association (JKSA) national convenor Nasir Khuehami.
All attention is on the Raj Bhawan. The Chief Minister’s Secretariat sent the age relaxation proposal to it on December 2. The BJP claimed that the government has not completed the necessary formalities.
NC government delays student proposals
“The NC government delayed the proposal on age relaxation by JKAS Aspirants. It should have happened four months ago. The L-G pointed out formalities. However, the government has not responded. The L-G assured that he would approve it once the formalities are complete,” said BJP leader and Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma, who met the L-G on Thursday.
Applicants appearing for the J&K Public Service examination on December 7 are upset. Danish Iqbal, an applicant, has started a hunger strike in Srinagar.
“As I write this at 7:45 PM from Joggers Park, Rajbagh, Srinagar, I have started an indefinite hunger strike. This hunger protest will continue until the government issues the order for age relaxation for JKAS applicants. I urge everyone to remain calm and peaceful throughout,” said Mr. Iqbal.
