JNU announce suspension of academic MoU for National Security

The Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) suspends academic MoU with Turkiye’s Inonu University, mention “national security” attention, an notice read on Wednesday. “Due to National Security issues, the MoU among JNU and Inonu University, Turkey stands suspended,” the university administration wrote on X. JNU inked MoU on February 3 for duration of 3 years.

“We have suspended the MoU with Turkiye’s Inonu University. There were plans for college change and student change programmes, amongst others,” a senior official said.

JNU suspends the MoU

According to the Turkish university’s site, it “has graduated about 150,000 people to this point and has educated tens of hundreds of certified human assets who have tested themselves in the fields of science, idea, artwork, economy and social sciences of our country.”

JNU’s move comes amid developing backlash against Turkey for its backing of Pakistan for the duration of India’s Operation Sindoor. Ankara and Azerbaijan criticised India’s strike on terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir. Islamabad extensively used Turkish Kamikaze drones in its failed attempt to target Indian army installations.

Backlash against Turkey

After JNU suspends academic MoU, Turkey’s head back to Pakistan against India drew good sized condemnation in India with investors calling for a boycott of products from the West Asian country and travel agencies cancelling their bookings to one of the most revered destination.

Days after buyers in Maharashtra’s Pune known as for a “boycott” of Turkish apples, various companies in Uttar Pradesh additionally emulated the flow and vowed to reduce all business ties with Turkey to protest its support for Pakistan.
