The Kashmir University suspended a Assistant Professor after a police investigation found him allegedly involved in spreading a defamatory text message about a senior employee. This decision came after Vice Chancellor Prof Neelofar Khan received a official notice from the Superintendent of Police Hazratbal, confirming that a First Information Report (FIR) filed in the case.

Officials reported that the issue began when a message shared on WhatsApp. The message claimed that a senior Kashmir University employee attacked by his wife over a rumored closeness to female colleague. Concerned about how this message could harm the university’s reputation, the Vice Chancellor contacted Police Station Nigeen to verify its origin.
The police conducted a thorough investigation and identified Dr. Altaf Ahmad Ganie, who also known by the pen name Shafqat Altaf. He works as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Kashmiri and found to the one who sent the message. Investigators discovered that he used the phone of another Assistant Professor, Farooq Ahmed Malik from Degree College Anantnag, to send the text via a VPN.
How does Professor reacts?
Sources revealed that Dr. Ganie admitted during questioning that he had used Malik’s phone to spread the message. Malik informed the investigators that he was unaware his device used for this purpose; however, he was charged along with Dr. Ganie. A faculty member familiar with the situation told that the act seemed to be a deliberate effort to harm the reputation of the senior employee, who holds an important administrative position at the Assistant Professor.
