The government set to include Ayurveda in health education at both schools and colleges. The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) and the University Grants Commission (UGC) are working together to create course modules that help students understand holistic health principles.
Jadhav pointed out that states like Goa, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Uttar Pradesh have already incorporated aspects of the Indian knowledge system into their school programs. He mentioned that discussions are ongoing to expand this approach across the country.
Ayurveda integration into School and College Health Curriculum
To establish global credibility for Ayurveda, the Ayush Ministry is focusing on research based on evidence. The Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS) and other institutions are conducting high-quality clinical trials. In partnership with the World Health Organization (WHO), efforts are also made to set international standards for Ayurvedic treatments.
Addressing the ongoing debate between modern medicine and traditional systems, Jadhav stressed the need for integration instead of competition. “Allopathy and AYUSH are complementary, not rivals. By combining the strengths of both systems, we aim to provide better healthcare services,” he said.
Will traditional health practices improve?
Under the National AYUSH Mission, AYUSH doctors already placed in Health and Wellness Centres, especially in rural and remote areas. It enhance access to primary healthcare.
Over the past ten years, the Ministry of AYUSH has worked to strengthen the identity of traditional practices both in India and internationally. Initiatives like International Yoga Day, AYUSH Chairs in global universities, and the WHO Global Centre for Traditional Medicine have played a key role in establishing India as a leader in holistic health.
According to Jadhav, the ministry’s strategy focuses on balanced growth, equal opportunities, and respect for the uniqueness of each medical system includes Ayurveda. It also promotes research, standardization, and education.
