Aaradhya Bachchan is the daughter of Bollywood actors Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and she has approached the Delhi High Court (HC) seeking the removal of false and misleading online rumors about her health. At 13 years old, it is her follow-up action against a court direction that ordered multiple websites and Google to remove fake reports on her well-being.
Aaradhya Bachchan approaches Delhi court to tackle health rumors
Still, despite the order passed by the court, certain platforms continue circulating false claims. In response to this, Aaradhya has filed a fresh petition in which the Delhi High Court has issued a notice to Google. This is the next legal battle for her to fight against the misinformation.
The controversy began when several videos on YouTube began circulating false rumors that Aaradhya was seriously ill. Some even stated that she was dead. Alarmed by the fabricated stories, she filed a case, which resulted in a ruling in April 2023 that ordered YouTube to delete all such videos instantly.
During that hearing, the Delhi High Court reiterates that everybody, celebrity or not, deserves dignity and protection, especially as far as one’s health, physical and mental, is concerned. The position of the court was underlined by growing concerns over the proliferation of false information online and how it was affecting people, particularly children.
Certain websites under legal trouble
However, the persistence of such content made Aaradhya file another lawsuit. The new case is focused on the non-compliance of certain websites and social media accounts that further strengthen the case for stricter enforcement against such false reporting.
The case is now back in court, and everyone waits with bated breath for the March 17 hearing. Its outcome could determine how to deal with digital misinformation and protect individuals, particularly minors, from dangerous online narratives.
