Director Sundar C Exits Rajinikanth's Thalaivar 173 Days After Announcement

Director Sundar C confirmed that he is leaving the film project ‘Thalaivar 173,’ which stars Rajinikanth. His announcement made public by his publicist on Thursday, November 13, 2025, and caught attention in the film industry.

 Although his wife and actor-producer Khushbu initially shared the statement on Instagram, she has since deleted it. Sundar’s decision to step back comes at a time when excitement was high for the collaboration.

Sundar C Exits Thalaivar

Sundar C said that unexpected and unavoidable events led him to leave the project. This collaboration marked his reunion with Rajinikanth after 1997’s ‘Arunachalam.’ He wrote, “Due to unforeseen and unavoidable circumstances, I have made the difficult decision to step back from the prestigious project, #Thalaivar173.”

The director mentioned that working with Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan was a significant moment in his life. He called the experience a “dream come true” and expressed his deep respect for both the actor and the producer. “My relationship with these two icons goes back a long way. I will always hold them in high regard,” Sundar C said.

He apologized to film team

He emphasized the special moments shared with Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan recently and noted that he would cherish the time they spent together. He added that both had taught him valuable lessons, and he would continue to seek their inspiration and guidance as he moves on.

The director expressed gratitude for being considered for the project. In his message, Sundar C said, “I thank both of them from the bottom of my heart for considering me for this magnum opus.”

He also offered apologies to his supporters who were looking forward to the film. He wrote, “Please accept my sincere apologies if this news has disappointed those who had eagerly anticipated this venture.”
