Filmmaker Vikram Sugumaran, greatly recognized for his critically acclaimed directorial debut Madha Yaanai Koottam, died on Monday in Chennai following a cardiac arrest. He was 47.
He was on his way back from Madurai after narrating a new script to a producer, but he experienced severe chest pain. Though he was rushed to a health facility nearby, doctors were unable to treat him. Sources near the director discovered he was set to return to Chennai by bus when the incident began.

On Monday, Director Vikram died in Chennai after cardiac arrest at the age of 47. He was known for his 2013 directorial debut Madha Yaanai Koottam, starring Kathir of Suzhal: The Vortex fame.
Sources near the filmmaker said that he was on the way to Chennai from Madurai by bus when he complained of chest pain. Despite being rushed to a health facility, doctors were not able to survive him.
About Filmmaker career
Vikram Sugumaran began his film career as an assistant to legendary director Balu Mahendra between 1999 and 2000. Later, he made a mark with Madha Yaanai Koottam, a gritty rural drama lauded for its raw storytelling and social statement. His most latest directorial venture was Raavana Kottam (2023), starring Shanthnu Bhagyaraj in the lead role.
He had been working on a new project titled Therum Porum. During a current media interaction, the filmmaker discovered that he faced betrayal from few individuals in the industry. However, he chose not to name anybody, declaring that he lacked solid proof to aid his claims.
