Hindi Actor Director Manoj Kumar dies at 87 in Mumbai

Indian actor and film director Manoj Kumar, popularly famous for his patriotic movies and the nickname ‘Bharat Kumar’, has passed away at the age of 87. He passed away on the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai early this morning at around 3.30 am due to age-related health issues. He become hospitalized for the past few weeks, as per reports

Manoj Kumar passed away at 87

His stays can be kept at his Juhu house from Friday afternoon so that industry colleagues and fans pays final respects. Cremation will most possibly take place on Saturday.

According to medical reviews, the reason of his death was identified as cardiogenic surprise because of acute myocardial infarction, a intense heart attack. The reports also showed that Manoj had been battling decompensated liver cirrhosis in the beyond few months, which contributed to his declining health.

He was admitted to the health center on February 21, 2025, after his situation worsened. Manoj was specially well known for his patriotic films. The actor was given the nickname ‘Bharat Kumar’.

Tributes to Bharat Kumar

On his death, filmmaker Ashoke Pandit stated, “…The legendary Dadasaheb Phalke award winner, our notion and the ‘lion’ of the Indian film industry, Manoj Kumar Ji is not any more…It is a big loss to industry and the entire industry will miss him…”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed his condolences. He took to X and said, “Deeply saddened by passing of mythical actor and filmmaker Shri Manoj Kumar Ji. He was an icon of Indian cinema, who became mainly remembered for his patriotic zeal, which was also pondered in his films. Manoj Ji’s works ignited a spirit of national pride and could keep to inspire generations. My mind are with his family and admirers during this time of grief. Om Shanti.”
