Kolkata police stop Vivek Agnihotri’s ‘The Bengal Files’ trailer Launch

Kolkata police stop Vivek Agnihotri's 'The Bengal Files’ trailer Launch

A principal controversy was sparked off on Saturday after the official trailer release of ‘The Bengal Files’, the upcoming movie of filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri, was stopped in Kolkata.

The official trailer of the film was scheduled to be release at a 5-star hotel in Kolkata on Saturday. However, due to some alleged ‘political pressures’, the venue was changed to a luxurious hotel on EM Bypass.

Why the ‘The Bengal Files’ trailer launch stopped

Everything was good in the morning. But as soon as the event began, a problem surfaced.  At one point, the director was visible arguing with the Kolkata Police. A senior Kolkata Police officer got a stage. Allegedly, it was his intervention that stopped the trailer release of the film. Amidst the chaos in the room, the Agnihotri stood at the level and said, “This is Bengal. Everything takes place here with the path of a few invisible hands. The truth is not allowed to be proven.” Allegedly, the computer used to show the film trailer was confiscated by the police.

Police detained film team

In response to a question from journalists, Agnihotri said that he could not care if he was arrested. Although he was not arrested, by then the director and his actress-producer wife Pallavi Joshi of ‘The Bengal Files’ had been surrounded by the police. They were allegedly averted from speaking to newshounds. After that, they had been taken out of the hotel under tight police safety.

“The power connection to the room has been cut for no reason. A lot of police have accumulated here considering that morning. We aren’t thieves and robbers. We make films. I did not believe that we’d must face one of these state of affairs in Satyajit Ray’s land. If this isn’t always dictatorship, then what’s it? If this is not fascism, then what is it?” Agnihotri alleged.

However, the police said that they got here after receiving some data, and no official complaint has been filed yet.
