Born Dharmendra Singh Deol, he passed away at his home. He had admitted to Breach Candy Hospital earlier this month due to respiratory issues.

He received the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award in 1997, recognizing his significant contributions to the industry. In 2012, the Government of India honored him with the Padma Bhushan, the country’s third-highest civilian award.
He last seen in the 2024 movie, Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya, which starred Shahid Kapoor and Kriti Sanon. He played the role of Shahid’s grandfather. He also appeared in the blockbuster romantic-comedy Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahani, where fans and critics praised his performance.
