Indian filmmaker Payal Kapadia has made history with her film All We Imagine As Light, which has bagged two prestigious nominations for the 2025 Golden Globes. The film is in the running for Best Non-English Language Motion Picture, and Kapadia has been nominated for Best Director (Motion Picture), an extraordinary feat for Indian cinema on the global stage.
Among others competing for Best Non-English Language Motion Picture is All We Imagine As Light. Competition arises here in terms of the French movie Emilia Perez which boasts the lead for most nominated Golden Globes movies in the event. Amongst others here are The Girl With the Needle, I’m Still Here, The Seed of the Sacred Fig, and Vermiglio.

All We Imagine As Light, which opened in India on November 22, has already gathered quite an international following. The film won the coveted Grand Prix at Cannes 2024, the first Indian film to win this prize. It also won accolades such as the Jury Grand Prize at the Asia Pacific Screen Awards, Best International Feature at the Gotham Awards, and Best International Film Award at the New York Film Critics Circle, etching it in the list of cinematic masterpieces.
The Golden Globe Awards, one of Hollywood’s most celebrated events, will stream live in India on January 6 via Lionsgate Play, starting at 6:30 AM IST. Fans and film enthusiasts can tune in to witness this historic moment as Kapadia and her groundbreaking film compete for global recognition.
