Ram Gopal Verma wants to make a biopic on Lawrence Bishnoi, says he is even handsome than many film stars

Known for making controversies through his films, filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has once again courted controversy. This time, Ram Gopal Verma has announced that he wants to make a biopic on the notorious gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. Talking to this newspaper, RGV described Lawrence Bishnoi as the “most good-looking person” he had seen. He defines Bishnoi as even more handsome than a few film stars.

The statement has ignited topical talks, especially after he posted a picture of Bishnoi wearing an orange t-shirt and hoodie on his X handle (formerly Twitter). Ram Gopal Varma wants to make a biopic on Lawrence Bishnoi, ignoring the crime history of the criminal and sparking mixed reactions online.

Ram Gopal Verma wants to make a biopic on Lawrence Bishnoi, says other film stars look like Dawood and Rajan

The post reads:

“If a film is based on the BIGGEST GANGSTER, no film maker will cast a guy who looks like DAWOOD IBRAHIM or CHOTA RAJAN. But here, I don’t know a single FILM STAR who is more GOOD LOOKING than B.”

RGV said comparing to other notorious gangsters, Dawood Ibrahim, and Chota Rajan, none of them could compare to Bishnoi’s looks. He said if a movie were to be made, the actor playing this character would need to be even more attractive than all the actors portraying the roles of other gangsters.

A user wrote:

“He is a Nationalist, not a Gangster. Don’t compare Lawrence with terrorists Dawood and chota rajan.”

Ram Gopal Varma’s intention to make a biopic on Lawrence Bishnoi has prompted online users to suggest casting choices humorously, but in a deep irony of things, Salman Khan reported to be cast as Lawrence Bishnoi in popular demand, has had a chequered past related to the infamous blackbuck poaching case of 1998.

Posts from Ram Gopal Varma have often courted controversy, and the circumstances surrounding his comments on Lawrence Bishnoi are yet another controversy that reignites debates over the glamorization of criminals.

Some social media users expressed qualms at his admiration for Bishnoi’s looks, with some even joking that RGV might have developed a “newfound crush” on the gangster. Many, however, questioned the morality of glorifying someone like Bishnoi. A user wrote,

“Do you realise that you are glorifying a gangster? We know you Bollywood walas are illiterate, but even illiterates have some sense of responsibility. It amazes me that people call you guys celebrities.”

One of the users even asked to cast Salman Khan in the biopic. It is because of the gang’s recent threat to murder Salman.

“Casting Salman Khan as a Lawrence will be the biggest irony .”

This aside, RGV appears hell-bent on extrapolating the storyline, as he further did well to emphasize his intent by saying, that Ram Gopal Varma wants to make a biopic on Lawrence Bishnoi, where the gangster violent record might just complicate this sort of portrayal.
