Ranveer Singh or Diljit Dosanjh? The Future of Singh Is Kinng Without Akshay Kumar

Ranveer Singh or Diljit Dosanjh? The Future of Singh Is Kinng Without Akshay Kumar

The much-awaited sequel of Singh Is Kinng, a super-hit from 2008, is causing a stir in Bollywood, with major casting changes taking center stage. Producer Shailendra Singh has recently confirmed that Akshay Kumar will not return for the sequel, Singh Is Kinng 2, as he is enacting the iconic Happy Singh.

The sequel will be with an all-new cast, and it is learnt that Ranveer Singh and Diljit Dosanjh are being considered for this lead. Fans get flustered, missing a bit of Akshay’s performance while others just want to see something new. Making Singh Is Kinng 2 has not been easy, it’s been a long journey, says Shailendra Singh:

Having bought the rights for the title three years ago, he has been working on this movie for over seven years. This October 2025, he will be showcasing the sequel on the floors. The tentative date for the film’s release is set for 2026. On the new chapter, Singh could only say happily,

“Now is the time both Ranveer and Diljit create magic together and take the franchise forward.”

His absence casts a huge shadow, but apparently, the film rights are half owned by the man. Akshay Kumar owns 50% rights through his company; thus, his nod is the only thing that can make this film happen. However, insiders claim Akshay remains uninterested without a script that meets his high standards.

If not Akshay Kumar, then either Ranveer or Diljit will take the helm for Singh Is Kinng

Currently, the lead in demand is Ranveer Singh, who has infectious energy and impeccable comedic timing. Diljit Dosanjh would have been the first choice had the negotiations failed. Shailendra Singh also confirmed that the sequel would introduce a new character rather than continuing with Happy Singh, which will hint at a fresh narrative while keeping the humor and the entertainment fans enjoyed in the original movie.

Reactions are mixed on social media as fans air their thoughts. There is much disappointment in his absence but people can certainly wait to see whether Ranveer or Diljit can fill in the shoes of Akshay Kumar. The sequel looks to re-build the magic of Singh Is Kinng for a younger audience.

All eyes are now on how this one shapes up as production is set to happen in late 2025 and whether or not it can do justice to its predecessor’s legacy.
