A tweet accusing music composer Santhosh Narayanan and his daughter Dhee of stealing the song “Enjoy Enjaami” from rapper Arivu has reignited a five-year-old controversy over credit. This dispute began after the massive success of their work with Dhee.
Controversy Over “Enjoy Enjaami” Led Santhosh Narayanan and Arivu clash
Their partnership soured over who truly deserves recognition for the global hit. The credit debate intensified when Arivu officially joined the discussion. He reiterated that while music is a team effort, credit and payment need to be fair. He pointed out that his collaborators hold rights while he has not been compensated.
Dispute Over Recognition and Rights
Arivu spoke out on X, said that the song reflects his personal history. He said, “For clarity regarding ‘Enjoy Enjaami’ (released five years ago): The beat was sent to me. I wrote the lyrics, composed the main vocal melody, and performed the song on basis of my own cultural history and lived experience. Music is collaborative.
But credit and payment must also be fair. The song was shot in my village, with stories from my land and my people. I shared that history, believing it would reach the masses. But I was labeled only as a ‘featuring’ artist despite writing the full song and composing the main melody.”
