Rajamouliis moving forward with his next big project, officially titled Varanasi. Co-written with V. Vijayendra Prasad, Varanasi is a sweeping sci-fi adventure that combines Hindu mythology with time travel. Bollywood star Mahesh Babu plays two roles in the film, portraying both Rudhra and Lord Rama.
There isn’t an official synopsis for film. In a previous discussion about the film, Rajamouli noted that one of its major influences is Indiana Jones. This hints at a blend of mythology, adventure, and grand visuals.
Varanasi will release on 25 March, 2027
Film is set to be released in India on March 25, 2027. Variance Films usually handles the North American distribution of Rajamouli’s films, so keep an eye on their social accounts for updates.
Film Budget Details
With a budget around ₹1,000 crore (about $120 million), Varanasi film is likely to be the most expensive production in Indian cinema. It was also filmed specifically for IMAX theaters. Filming started in January 2025 in Hyderabad, and the production also filmed on location in Kenya and Odisha.
