Shraddha Kapoor’s much-anticipated film which was Stree 2 alongside Rajkummar Rao, Aparshakti Khurana, Abhishek Banerjee and Pankaj Tripathi has taken the box office by storm. Stree 2 was directed by Amar Kaushik and the movie made a strong Box office collection with an impressive ₹60.3 crore on its day 1 as reported by Sacnilk.com. The horror-comedy was released on Independence Day August 15 Thursday and quickly became the talk of the town.
The success story of Stree 2 began even before its official release. Special premieres held on Wednesday added ₹8.35 crore to the tally. On its first full day in threatres the movie raked in approximately ₹51.8 crore. These combined earnings brought the total to ₹60.3 crore making Stree 2 the biggest opening day grosser of 2024. It has outperformed Kalki 2898 AD and Fighter which were earlier leading in the box office rankings for the year.
A Record-Breaking Start
These figures are monumental for a film in this genre. To put it in perspective the original Stree took six days to reach a similar milestone. With a staggering 77.09% occupancy on its first day in the Hindi market Stree 2 is now the highest-grossing Hindi opener of all time after Jawan which grossed ₹65.5 crore last year. Notably it even surpassed Pathaan which earned ₹55 crore on its first day.
Critics and fans have been praising Stree 2 for its humor and engaging storyline. The film’s script penned by Niren Bhatt is loaded with quick-paced, original jokes that keep viewers hooked. The comedic timing of the ensemble cast led by Rajkummar Rao plays an important role in making the film a fun ride. The first half in particular has been lauded for its engaging and fresh content.
Plot and Cameos in Stree 2
In Stree 2 Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor reprise their iconic roles from the original film. This time the plot revolves around how the people of Chanderi once again seek Stree’s help to combat a new terror who was Sarkata. The movie also surprises fans with several unannounced star cameos. Varun Dhawan returns as Bhediya and even joins Shraddha in a special song adding more excitement.

Competing Films Fail to Dampen Stree 2’s Performance
Although Stree 2 Day 1 Box Office Collection had some competition from Khel Khel Mein featuring Akshay Kumar and Taapsee Pannu and Vedaa starring John Abraham it still dominated the box office. Despite the release of Tamil and Telugu films like Thangalaan and Double iSmart Stree 2 remained the top choice for audiences nationwide.
Given the advance booking trends Stree 2 is expected to cross the ₹100 crore mark by its second day. It is well on its way to becoming one of the fastest films to reach this milestone, possibly joining blockbusters like Jawan, Pathaan, Animal, KGF 2 and Tiger 3. The film could even dethrone some of these big names in the race to ₹100 crore.
With the Independence Day extended weekend and Raksha Bandhan holiday Stree 2 is positioned to shatter more records in the days ahead. Analysts are curious to see whether it will enter the ₹400 crore club by the end of its theatrical run which is a feat achieved by only a few Bollywood films.
