Tulsi Vivah 2024: Date, Shubh Mohrat, and Significance

Tulsi Vivah 2024 is a sacred Hindu festival that celebrates the symbolic marriage of the Tulsi plant, also called holy basil, to Lord Shaligram, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. The festival is going to be celebrated on 13th November this year, as Dwadashi Tithi will begin from 4:04 PM of 12 November and end at 1:01 PM of 13 November. It is performed on the 12th day of the lunar month and has spiritual values by marking the beginning of Hindu wedding season after Chaturmas.

The story of Tulsi Vivah 2024 starts with Vrinda who was an ardent wife of the demonic king Jalandhar. Unwavering chastity shielded him from harm, though he was evil to his core. When gods required the help of Lord Vishnu to defeat Jalandhar, he cheated Vrinda. As punishment, she cursed the black Shaligram stone to be Vishnu. Out of respect for her purity, the gods gave her the form of the sacred tulsi plant, and their divine wedding is in its fourteenth incarnation performed annually.

How Tulsi Vivah 2024 rituals will begin?

The rituals of Tulsi Vivah 2024 begin with preparation for a ceremonial space by the devotees. The bride is coloured Tulsi plant, while the groom is Lord Shaligram. He undergoes all the wedding ceremonies when the devotees keep a fasting spree and pray and offer special bhog. It finally ends with prasad distribution among all as it stands for blessings to be shared.

Apart from being a religious function, Tulsi Vivah is indeed the divine matrimony of Lord Vishnu with Goddess Lakshmi through Tulsi. On the one hand importance is given to good virtues, devotion and protection by divine forces.

On the other hand, it also signifies the commencement of the auspicious season of weddings just after the passage of Devuthani Ekadashi where couples seek blessings for an amicable and prosperous married life. Through Tulsi Vivah 2024, immense faith, unity, and rich cultural heritage have so far continued to be alive among Hindu families.
