In a rare inter-border event, Pakistani MP Abdul Rehman Kanju joined the Indian National Lok Dal’s (INLD) Diwali celebration in Haryana, an event where he was seen for the first time taking part in an event that honoured the victories of the Chautala family during elections in Sirsa. The INLD program was staged in Chautala village to celebrate the victories of Arjun Chautala in Rania and Aditya Devi Lal Chautala in Dabwali in the just concluded 2024 Haryana Assembly elections. Kanju extended warm gratitude to the Chautala family and villagers for their hospitality. He spoke of his ancestral connection to a Punjab village, recalling personal memories of the support he received from the Chautala family during difficult times. Taking his turn in speaking to the gathering, Kanju inspired locals to pay their respects to elders whom he considered “leading forces” that guide a person’s life. Saying that it perfectly brought out the celebratory flavour surrounding such events, as well as good wishes toward the former Chief Minister, Om Prakash Chautala. Pakistan MP at the celebrations of Diwali and INLD’s annual congregation marked strong long-staying relationships and harmony for the occasion’s celebrations.
INLD issued a statement thanking Kanju for coming, saying it gave the function a special flavour. This was the first instance where a Pakistani parliamentarian participated in such an event.
