In a major fiscal change, the Indian government has revised the GST 2.0 system, effective from 22 September 2025. The reform simplifies the tax structure by introducing just two GST rates based on the category of goods.

Consumers in the electronics segment are among the main beneficiaries. Items such as televisions and air conditioners have seen a decrease in GST, reflecting their growing importance as essential household items due to changing lifestyles and climate conditions.
Festive sales offer discounts on electronics
While GST 2.0 cuts do not directly reduce the cost of phones or laptops, buyers can still benefit from festive season offers. Major sales events such as Amazon’s Great Indian Festival and Flipkart’s Big Billion Days will begin on 23 September 2025.
Amazon India’s Great Indian Festival (AGIF) 2025 is set to start on 23 September, providing customers with reduced prices on various smartphones and accessories from brands like Samsung, Apple, OnePlus, iQOO, Xiaomi, realme, and Lava. Prime members will have 24-hour early access to the sale.
In contrast, the automotive sector is expected to see a significant boost. After the GST reforms, several leading car manufacturers have announced price cuts across their lineups. The government has reduced the GST on small cars from 28 % to 18 %, making car ownership more affordable and providing substantial savings to Indian consumers.
