Vijay Mallya is facing charges of fraud and money laundering in India. He claims that banks had recovered Rs 14,100 crore from him against his debt of Rs 6,203 crore. The former owner of RCB and Kingfisher Airlines also reiterated that he face discrimination against as opposed to different defaulters who obtained alleviation from banks. Mallya had made same claims in December 2024 and the remaining in February.
Vijay Mallya Claims Bank Put him in Debt
Mallya was responding to a post through RPG Group chairperson Harsh Goenka, who puzzled why Mallya constantly made the “political punching bag” no matter having repaid heaps of crores of his debt.
In a post devoted to the “king of right times” — as Mallya mentioned all through his good years in India — Goenka wrote, “Vijay Mallya lived the high life, sure. Defaulted, sure. Unlike most others, his Rs 9,000+ crore dues at the moment settled. Meanwhile, bigger defaulters stroll free with a good deal of fatter haircuts from banks. If dues become, the banks should absolutely say so. If not, why is he still a political punching bag?” He brought up that justice must be honest, not selective.

Vijay Mallya thanked Goenka for his support and said, “The Union Finance Ministry has confirmed in writing that Banks have recovered Rs 14,100 crores from me against DRT debt of Rs 6,203 crore. Why the discrimination?”
Mallya has been fighting legal battles stemming from a default on loans taken through Kingfisher Airlines. He has been living in the UK because 2016 and is currently also fighting extradition. Recently, after his former IPL franchise, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), lifted their maiden trophy, Mallya were given trolled on X after he recollected founding the team and choosing a number of the team key players, includes Virat Kohli, Chris Gayle, and AB de Villiers.
