Pani Puri is a popular Indian snack which is loved by a wide range of people and is eaten on a regular basis in India. However, Pani Puri has fallen short of Karnataka food safety standards due to which it can face stricter regulations due to harmful ingredients which have been used in it. It is reported that Pani Puri contains cancer causing chemicals which cause cancer in the long term.
The Karnataka government has recently put a ban on artificial coloring in gobi manchurian, cotton candy and kebabs. Now the government has collected 200 pani puri samples from different locations along the state including restaurants, malls and street vendors etc. The health and family welfare minister Gundu Rao has promised the residents that strict action would be taken against Pani Puri makers if Pani Puri contains cancer causing chemicals in it.

“As the use of artificial colors in the preparation of cotton candy, gobi and kebabs is banned, #Panipuri samples being sold in the state have been collected and sent for testing. Many models of Panipuri also failed the food safety test, they contained #cancer causing elements” he said
“More analysis is being done on this, and after the test report, the health department will take appropriate action. At the same time, the general public should take special care of their health and refrain from consuming food items that affect our health. Great importance should be given to cleanliness and hygiene.” he added.
The FSSA inspected 79 locations in Karnataka, including 49 in Bengaluru, due to many complaints about the quality of Pani Puri. They tested 260 samples and found 41 with artificial coloring and harmful chemicals making them unsafe. Additionally 18 samples were found to be of poor quality which possibly tells us that Pani Puri contains cancer causing chemicals.

The Risk Of Further Diseases:
Brilliant Blue FCF also called FD&C Blue No. 1 is a man-made dye found in foods and cosmetics. Consuming too much can lead to skin rashes, stomach issues, and hyperactivity in kids. These problems are uncommon and usually happen with high intake of Pani Puri.
During the monsoon season, typhoid cases have increased in Telangana. Health officials say the popular street food pani puri is the cause. In May, there were 2,700 typhoid cases in Telangana and this number rose to 2,752 in June.
