Don’t surprise if you see posters said “Fuel not provided to “overage vehicles” at petrol pumps in Delhi from today. In its effort to reduce air pollution, the Delhi government have enforced a gasoline ban for overage motors, that is, petrol vehicles aged 15 years or older and diesel cars aged 10 years or older.
Vehicles are the top polluters in the national capital, accounting for more than half (51 percent) of the pollutants from all neighborhood emission sources, per analysis by the Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) released in November 2024.
No diesel Petrol to overage vehicles in Delhi
The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) issued Statutory Direction No 89, implementing safety measures against overage vehicles of all types (goods services, business, old, two-wheelers) throughout the NCR.
This circulate will affect around 62 lakh vehicles (61,14,728) in National capital. There are 27.5 lakh overaged motors (as of March 2025) in Haryana, 12.69 lakh in Uttar Pradesh, and 6.2 lakh in Rajasthan.
Strict Safety Measures Taken by Government
The Transport Department has prepare a deployment plan related to Delhi Police, Traffic Police, and the Municipal Corporation (MCD) employees at gas stations reporting a high volume of visitors with overaged vehicles.
Delhi Police personnel are deployed in gasoline stations numbered 1 to 100, while the Transport Department will mobilize 59 unique teams throughout fuel stations numbered 100 and 1 to 159.
