In a shocking incident, a group of fake doctors with dubious medical credentials opened a multispecialty hospital in Gujarat. Named Janseva Multispecialty Hospital, it was inaugurated on Sunday in the Pandesara area. The hospital was shut down within 24 hours after the state government intervened, stating public safety as the reason.
Already, high-ranking officials including Surat Municipal Commissioner Shalini Agarwal and Police Commissioner Anupam Singh Gahlaut had been invited to the event, although they later clarified that they had not known of the invitation and had not attended.
Police investigations found that two of the five co-founders of this hospital used to have fake medical degrees. Senior officer Vijay Singh Gurjar recognized BR Shukla as among the chief accused.
While being promoted as an Ayurvedic practitioner, Shukla is under charges filed against him for the Gujarat Medical Practitioners’ Act, while claiming false credentials. The other co-founder, RK Dubey, who claimed an electro-homeopathy degree has also been questioned and taken into consideration for similar charges.
Fake doctors in Gujarat had fake degrees
Both Shukla and Dubey have been found to hold fake degrees. Another co-founder, GP Mishra, has a police record, too, with three cases under the Prohibition Act. Gurjar adds that his qualifications are yet to be verified. Police are scrutinizing the credentials of the other two co-founders as well.
Authorities swiftly sealed the hospital premises to prevent any potential harm from unqualified treatments. “Public safety is our top priority. We are verifying all degrees, and further action will follow based on our findings,” Gurjar added.
The case does pose the issue of an increasingly prevalent number of unlicensed medical practitioners operating in the region. While masquerading in the professional garb of a qualified doctor risks lives, it also undermines the healthcare system as a whole. The rapid shutdown of the clinic reminds one that the government does not take such fraudulent practices lightly.
