Indian famous fashion designer Rohit Bal has passed away at the age of 63 due to a cardiac arrest, according to reports. Confirmation came a day after Bal died shortly after admission at Aashlok Hospital in Delhi. According to NDTV, a close friend said that Bal had been admitted just a week earlier into the ICU before his last show, which was held in October.
The Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) took to Instagram and posted a tribute from the heart. “Gudda” Bal, whose influence on fashion is truly profound, was remembered:
“We mourn the passing of legendary designer Rohit Bal. His unique fusion of traditional patterns with contemporary aesthetics redefined Indian fashion and inspired countless designers. His legacy will live on through his artistry and innovation.”
Sunil Sethi, president of the FDCI, confirmed that the designer would be cremated on Saturday. He said that he was deeply disturbed over Bal’s death:
“It’s true that he has passed away from cardiac arrest… Rohit was a legend, and we are completely shaken by this news.”

Born in Srinagar, Rohit Bal was established as a prominent personality in the year 1986. He has received many major rewards, including ‘Designer of the Year’ in the Indian Fashion Awards in 2006 and the Kingfisher Fashion Achievement Award in 2001. He was also conferred with the position of Lakme Grand Finale Designer in 2012.
Nevertheless, ill health claimed fashion designer Rohit Bal’s life when he was on top of his game with a super-successful comeback on the Lakme Fashion Week X FDCI runway. There, he unveiled his scintillating “Kaaynaat: A Bloom in the Universe”, show-stopped by actor Ananya Panday, who flaunted a signature Rohit Bal design with much pride.
With that, Bal will always go down in history as an Indian fashion pioneer and trailblazer who will forever leave behind the tapestry of creativity and inspiration with which he gifted generations ahead.
