Prime Minister Narendra Modi was accorded the coveted Order of Mubarak Al Kabeer yesterday in Kuwait as he completed the first day of his landmark two-day visit. According to news reports, it has made him receive the 20th international honor as prime minister, the highest civilian honor awarded to him by Kuwait.
Traditionally, the Order of Mubarak Al Kabeer is awarded to heads of state and royals as a symbol of friendship and diplomacy. Some of the notable recipients of this order include Bill Clinton, Prince Charles, and George Bush.
PM Modi was accorded a grand ceremonial welcome at Bayan Palace in Kuwait. The Amir of Kuwait, Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, received him during the ceremony, which included a guard of honor. Discussions with the Amir, the Crown Prince, and Kuwait’s Prime Minister followed the event, which focused on strengthening bilateral relations.

The Indian Ministry of External Affairs marked the occasion with a post on X: “A special welcome to a historic visit! PM @narendramodi arrives at the Bayan Palace to a ceremonial welcome and Guard of Honour. Extensive talks with HH the Amir, Crown Prince, and PM of Kuwait lie ahead.”
This is the first official visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Kuwait in more than four decades. Modi also interacted with Indian workers at the Gulf Spic employees’ camp, where he appreciated their efforts for the progress of Kuwait. The Prime Minister also addressed the Indian diaspora at the Hala Modi event at Shaikh Saad Al Abdullah Indoor Sports Complex.
The visit shows the deepening ties between India and Kuwait through a shared vision of economic and cultural cooperation.
