PM Modi launches projects worth INR 5,500 crores in Prayagraj, describes Maha Kumbh 2025 as a “mahayagya of unity

Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Prayagraj on Friday described the upcoming Maha Kumbh 2025 as a “mahayagya of unity. He highlighted the event’s power to transcend caste and sect divisions, saying it would elevate India’s cultural and spiritual heritage to unprecedented heights.

While in Prayagraj, Modi launched 167 infrastructural works/projects of a value of ₹5,500 crore to prepare Prayagraj for hosting the grand religious congregation. A number of these projects was the Sah’AI’yak chatbot which is an AI-based application regarding the assistance of pilgrims during Maha Kumbh.

Before going in public, Modi conducted a ceremonial puja at Sangam, the meeting point of the Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati rivers, at Prayagraj. Accompanied by Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel and its Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, they also undertook a river cruise as a sacred ritual.

Maha Kumbh 2025, to be held from 13th January (Paush Poornima) to 26th February (Maha Shivratri), is expected to draw to Prayagraj a large number of pilgrims. Modi in Prayagraj stressed the spiritual significance of the occasion, saying, “The Maha Kumbh will result in a feeling of unity and provide a reflection of India’s rich cultural values.

Modi in Prayagraj: What it means for worshippers?

Modi’s visit, in this way, also brought out the spiritual importance of the Triveni Sangam. Millions of worshippers are anticipated within the sacred waters during the Maha Kumbh for holy ablations to cleanse their souls and achieve moksha, or liberation. The event will also feature religious discourses and rituals presided over by saints and spiritual leaders.

When Modi in Prayagraj launched developmental works, he once again reiterated the commitment of the government to prepare for this scale of the event. These initiatives cover the construction of roads, sewers, and new riverfront facilities to provide an uninterrupted experience for the millions of visitors expected to arrive in 2025.
