Stop dating! No more OYO hotel rooms for unmarried couples in Meerut

OYO, the popular travel booking platform that is known to be couple-friendly, has made a major policy change for unmarried couples in Meerut. From this year onwards, OYO partner hotels in the city will not allow unmarried couples to check in together unless they provide valid proof of their relationship at the time of check-in.

Region Head of OYO North India Pawas Sharma explained the logic behind it. “While we respect personal freedom and individual choices, we also need to address concerns of local communities and law enforcement,” he said, as quoted by PTI.

OYO ensures social norms, no more rooms for unmarried couples in Meerut

This is a move by OYO to fit into regional social norms and provide safe and responsible hospitality. OYO has reportedly instructed partner hotels in Meerut not to accept unmarried couples unless new requirements are fulfilled. The company has also hinted at extending the policy to other cities based on feedback from local regions.

It also aims to recast the way people view the brand OYO, making it an inclusive brand of safety for the family, students, and single tourists. According to Sharma, “We will continue to review the policy’s effectiveness and its impact periodically.”

OYO introduces nationwide initiatives for ethical hospitality

In addition to the above, OYO has introduced nationwide initiatives for ethical hospitality. The platform is in collaboration with law enforcement agencies and hotel partners to blacklist places that are encouraging inappropriate activities and are taking action against unauthorized hotels that are misusing OYO’s branding.
These new measures signify OYO’s larger strategy for redefining its image as a trustworthy and socially responsible brand.
